The most important thing to remember when cleaning windows in the winter is that water will freeze very quickly on the window, which can make the process quite tricky.
As we enter the winter season we asked the Perfectshine team for their top 5 tips for window cleaning in the winter.
- Use warm water as opposed to cold
This might sounds obvious but using warm water on windows as opposed to cold water will make the process much easier. Not very hot water as this can potentially break the glass but warm water, which won’t freeze so quickly.
- Add a little cleaning detergent
Using a little deicer or cleaning agent will help by ensuring the water does not freeze straight away. This will give you the opportunity to apply the water and then use the squeegee to remove the residue before it dries.
- Dry all the edges
Water will enviably drip onto the frame of the window. Particularly in winter it is important to make sure all areas are dried correctly in order to prevent the water freezing around the edges of the window. When water turns to ice it expands and can risk cracking the windows.
- Pick the right time of the day
Winter sun can be low and beautiful but is not optimal for window cleaning. Try to clean your windows when they are not in direct sunlight, this will make it easier to see where streaks have appeared.
- Stay safe
Winter can be tricky when using ladders and trying to reach awkward places. Make sure before starting any work that your ladder is held firmly in place with ladder stoppers or spikes to give the ladder grip.
